- Explain what your document means
- Tell you whether to sign
- Choose which notarial certificate you need
- Draft, complete or correct documents
- Promise that anyone will accept your document
If you come from a country where a notario público is a lawyer: a California notary public is not a lawyer and cannot represent you in any legal matter, including immigration.

Booking means agreeing to:
- Bring valid photo ID for every person signing
- Bring the document complete and unsigned
- Have everyone who must sign present at the appointment
- Pay the fees shown at the time of booking
FeesLink to this section
Notarization is $10 per page.
Travel fees for mobile appointments are a flat $75 per visit, separate from the notarization fee and disclosed before you book.
Payment is taken at the appointment for now. Once self-serve online booking opens, payment will be taken online at the time of booking.
When a notarization cannot be completedLink to this section
California law requires a notary to decline in certain situations, including:
- No acceptable identification
- The signer does not appear to understand what they are signing
- The signer appears to be under pressure
- Blank spaces that should be completed
- No direct communication with the signer
- A personal or financial interest in the transaction

The California surety bond required by law is carried.
Responsibility extends to performing the notarial act correctly. It does not extend to what your document says, whether it achieves what you want, or whether a third party accepts it.
